Houghtons in the United States

For those of you having an interest in Houghtons from the US, your first port of call should be The Houghton Surname Project website compiled by Charles Vella, Ph.D. Charles is writing an updated revision of the 1912 Houghton Genealogy that now includes 80,000 descendants of Ralph and John Houghton of Lancaster, MA and John Houghton of Stony Brook, NJ, and all Houghton/Haughton surname individuals prior to 1930 who lived in or emigrated to the United States. Variants include Haughton, Hotton, Hotten, Hoten, Hoton, Howton, etc. Charles is also coordinating the Houghton/Haughton DNA Project.
